Let’s get this straight: Vienna a competitive city for restaurants and cafes, bars and discos, and someone comes up with the idea to serve real Austrian cuisine. Now that’s original. And at the same time to appeal to the neuveau in all of us, Bioligich, meaning natural ingredients unfettered by technological enhancements. Bring on sounds of cows mooing. Place your restaurant next to the remains of centuries of Hapsburg rulers and aristocrats of central Europe in a really, really cool building in the center of Vienna . Can this be a formula for success? This place exists, with a name intentionally pretentious. In the heart of Vienna . Three levels. Each of them quite unique. Go! This place works. And for some unfathomable reason the Viennese snub it, so you can enjoy yourself. Principally, this means less smoke in your eyes. Just kidding, all the other euro-trash smokes, too. When you smoke so much, this explains why you insist the rest or your environment be green! How sensible these Euro-Trash can be, cut open their lungs or livers and…. Never mind the digression. Back to this under-appreciated but savory venue, when I am not at Poipu Beach to enjoy my vacation rental on Kauai ’s South Shore in Hawaii , see Mypoipubeach.com, then this is one place I want to experience.

I no longer can total the number of times I enjoyed the biologich food and the wine here. This alone constitutes a recommendation. I last enjoyed perfect Spring Spragel, the German speaking worlds very special treat in Spring, first in a scrumptious warm soup and then pasta, my companion had a full side of Spragel , for all of Euro 2.50, and Wiener Schnitzel. We sat on the first floor, that is the second floor to North Americans, which has a modernish bar and semi-elegant dining room. The bar gives on to the open kitchen, the staircase from the ground floor and the usual Austrian fetish for an elaborate elevator caged in glass. We had a glass of Sekt , Austria ’s sparkling wine before being seated. This from a very friendly, efficient, and capable waitress. Why do I say this? Could it be because she gave us the two glasses of Ssekt she had started pouring for a dining room order? Can I be bought so easily. Of course not!

Turned out, she had the dining room to herself that night. Yet, the service never suffered, when all she had to help her was a fop of a bus boy. And friendly throughout.

The ground floor is quite interesting and somewhat typical of Vienna . In good weather, about half the year in Vienna , a sidewalk café gives on to an interior with what Americans call a delicatessen, café and bar. Essentially, you can take out all sorts of goodies, or give-in immediately and satisfy oneself.

In the lower level, a very finely outfitted Enoteca, that is wine shop, in the cool moldy portion of the lower regions of the building, surrounded by the inventory of great Austrian wines and another bar. Why do wine bottles, simply stacked, impart such an attraction to any locale? On the other hand, this part never seems to attract anyone; but seems to me exceptionally warm and fuzzy. It is on my list, particularly for the upcoming warm summer days.
