First Impression: Vienna , it’s been observed, competes for dinners at least as much as New York , and this examples supports a Darwinian evolution to the highest life form. The last several years a really nice Tratoria occupied the space at Tuchlaubenhof. Without realizing it, this cute place disappeared. The setting, just off the Graben can’t be beat, opposite Fabio’s, one of the food-and-be-seen destinations, with an outdoor location under the high glass roof spanning Tuchlaubenhof, the laws of nature created an even better venue. The décor to the interior changed to a more casual, calmer, more sophisticated and comfortable presentation. The exterior seating opulent by any standards one applies. Then the selection of wine, a true vinothek in Vienna’s style: emphasis on wine with hundreds of choices stacked around the interior; and, a bit of food to keep the palette ready for more joie de vivre. Just a super looking bar; and, then the best for last. The menu. First selection of not just anit-pasti, but a French flair, with even fois gras d’canard, frite. I hadn’t had this sinful offering, served spoonful size, since dining in Monte Carlo , at BelaVista. More on that spectacular place another time. And the pricing quite reasonable.

When in Vienna if you miss this, you miss one of the best parts of this eclectic, international city.
